Mandal Social Activities - Lalbaugcha Raja

Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal is carrying out numerous social and academic activities since 1934 for uplift of the society and the Country. The mandal has always contributed to the social works whenever any catastrophe has taken place in the country. In 1947, Mandal donated its balance amount to the Kasturba Fund and to Bihar Flood Relief Fund in 1959. Mandal did its bit by contributing to the National Fund during floods at Bihar in 1959 and during the wars in 1962 & 1965. Since 1976, a part of the balance amount of the Mandal is deposited as “SHIKSHAN IMARAT NIDHI”. 

In 1990, the Mandal contributed Rs.15,000/- towards “Konkan Flood Relief Fund”, established by the Express Group for the flood affected people of Jambhulpada, based in Konkan, Maharashtra. It is the first mandal who contributed Rs.1 Lac to the “Army Central Welfare Fund”, in 1999 for the families of the soldiers who scarified their lives to uphold the dignity of the Nation at Kargil and the same was handed over to then Governor of Maharashtra State, Dr. P.C. Alexander. 

The current activities carried by the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal are:

Rugna Sahayya Nidhi-
The Mandal has started “Rugna Sahayya Nidhi (Medical Aid Scheme)”. As per the scheme, patients treated in Govt. / Municipal Hospitals in Mumbai viz. K.E.M. Hospotal, Nair Hospital, L.T.M.G. (Sion) Hospital, G.T.B. Hospital, Tata Hospital, Wadia Hospital, J.J. Hospital, Cama Albless Hospital, G.T. Hospital, etc. are financially aided. For the year 2007-08, the Mandal has sanctioned Rs.75 Lacs for this scheme. 

Lokmanya Tilak Computer Training Institute-
Today, Computer has become an integral part of our lives. Computer knowledge is a must now for everybody. Hence to increase the Computer literacy, “Lokmanya Tilak Computer Training Institute” has been established by the Mandal. The Institute conducts Basic in Office Automation, D.T.P., Tally, AutoCAD, etc. courses at nominal fees. The Computer Training Institute is a MS-CIT Authorized Training center. 

Free Yoga Centre-
It is said that a healthy housewife keeps her family healthy. And as agreed by the whole world, YOGA is the best way to keep a human being healthy. Hence, “Free Yoga Centre” has been started by the Mandal for women. Free of cost Yoga classes are conducted for ladies where practice sessions are also arranged daily. Many women have been benefited by the Yoga centre. 

Free Study Room Facility-
Nowadays it has become very difficult for students to find a place where they can study peacefully without any disturbances. The problem is very much severe in middle class locality of nearby area. To overcome this problem, Mandal offers “Free Study Room Facility” to the students. 

Swatantryaveer Savarkar Library & Reference Book Bank-
As someone has quoted ‘Reading sharpens the thought processes of a human being’. Reading as a habit has always allowed to nurture a wholesome sense of well being. Also, in today’s competitive era, there is no option for “studies” or rather “higher studies”. But the prices of the books required for habitual readers and for higher studies are so expensive that many cannot afford to buy these books. Due to this, many students give up their studies and many habitual readers are deprived of reading.

To overcome this, “Swatantryaveer Savarkar Library & Reference Book Bank” was started in August 2006. Various educational books of all faculties as well as various literature books are made available free of cost for all. The educational section of the library includes books from various streams such as Engineering, Medicines, Law, Science, Commerce, Arts, Management, Information Technology etc. A separate section of the library is dedicated for books required for various Competitive exams such as UPSC, MPSC, Banking etc. For general readers, literature of various well known authors from all categories are made available. 

KONKAN FLOOD RELIEF FUND-
A natural calamity crumbled down on Maharashtra on 26th July 05. By keeping consciousness of social awareness, the Mandal offered hands to the flood affected persons who suffered by sounding blow of great deluge in Maharashtra. Mandal declared aid of Rs.25 Lacs to flood affected persons. Mandal's volunteers themselves distributed food grains, utensils, cloths and medical help to the people affected by flood in several regions of Maharashtra. In Mahad-Poladpur, Sub-Divisions of Raigad District - a major suffered region by the severe stroke of violent flood - 100 volunteers of the Mandal along with 7 doctors, were working in relief work for eight days. In those two sub-division of Raigad District, the Mandal organized medical camps in all villages where people were provided various medicines & administered TT injections. 

Volunteers of the Mandal distributed cloths, mats, blankets, utensils, breads & biscuits, stoves etc. to the flood affected at Badlapur and Kurla in Mumbai. Since Western Mumbai was also majorly affected during the flood, medical camp was arranged at Goregaon. Some essential things were distributed to the flood affected persons from Diwa at Lalbaug. Mandal donated medicines worth Rs.2 Lacs to the Leprosy Ashram “Shantivan” based at Panvel. 

Contribution towards re-construction of College-
During this calamity, the college of “Shivai Shikshan Sanstha” was drowned away totally. The Mandal spent Rs.3 Lacs for construction of two class-rooms and done its bit in re-construction of the college.

JUI VILLAGE REHABILITATION PROJECT-
During the natural calamity of 26th July 05, in Jui village based in Raigad District of Maharashtra, about 66 families lost their shelter due to land slide. During the flood relief work the Mandal had promised for the total rehabilitation of the villagers. The Mandal got opportunity to construct 30 houses among them. The construction work of these self contained houses, each of 400 Sq. Ft., was completed by spending Rs.50 Lacs. MLA of Mahad Mr. Manikrao Jagtap, Dy.Collector Dr. Shivajirao Patil and their staff helped a lot during this rehabilitation project. Maharashtra state government provided the other amenities such as roads, water, electricity etc to the village and the flood affected village was converted to a beautiful locality.

The keys of the newly constructed houses were handed over to the villagers in presence of Hon. Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh, on 26th April 2007. The dignitaries who were present for the function include MLA Mr. Sunil Tatkare, MLA Mr. Manikrao Jagtap, District Collector, Dy. Collector, Dy.S.P. and many other Government officials. The MLA of Lalbaug-Parel Mr.Dagdudada Sakpal, the Corporator of Lalbaug Mr. Anil Pawar and Ex-Corporator of Lalbaug Mr. Pradip Jadhav also attended the function.Thus by handing over the newly constructed houses to the villagers, the Mandal kept its word of their rehabilitation.

Competitive Exam Preparations-
In today’s competitive era, there is no option for “studies” or rather “higher studies”. To succeed, everybody should keep pace with the rapidly changing world. Because of this obsession, Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal has started free of cost training workshops of various competitive examinations for all eligible & promising candidates. The main aim of these workshops is to create officers of higher rank who will serve our nation and take it at the pinnacle. 

IAS / IPS WORKSHOP-
In this determination, a full day “IAS / IPS training workshop” was organized by the Mandal on 27th March 2007. The main focus of the workshop was to make candidates understand the nature of Civil Services (IAS / IPS) examination conducted by UPSC. Hence, Mandal arranged speeches by reputed personalities who have passed this exam in the past. This was to understand how to prepare for the preliminary exam and how to succeed in it. During the workshop, Mrs. Supriya Devsthali-Kolte (Dy. Commissioner - Central Excise & Customs) and Mr. Pravin Ninave (Director - Vidarbha Study Circle, Nagpur) gave guidance , primarily on preparation for preliminary exam and Personality Test of the Civil Services exams. In second half of the Workshop, a seminar was arranged in the form of discussion among Mr. Avinash Dharmadhikari (Voluntarily Retired IAS), Mr.Jayraj Phatak,IAS (then Chief Secretary, Education & Sports), Mrs. Manisha Patankar-Mhaiskar,IAS (Director, Information & Public Relation, Maharashtra State), Mrs. Pradnya Sarvade,IPS (Additional Commissioner of Police, Anti Corruption Bureau). The motto of the seminar was “SHIVDHANUSHYA PELATAANA” which means to achieve success even though it is tough. The discussion was compered by well-known Marathi anchorman Mr.Sudhir Gadgil. During the discussion, the dignitaries shared their secrets of passing the exam and their experiences during the Civil Services.

The workshop was concluded by a speeches by Mr. Hemant Nagrale, IPS (Additional Commissioner of Police), Mr. Pratap Dighavkar (Dy. Commissioner of Police), Dr. Sanjay Oak (Dean, Nair Hospital), and Mr. Dagdudada Sakpal (MLA-Parel Constituency). Approximately 1000 candidates attended the Workshop. The workshop was hugely appreciated by many candidates in their Evaluation feedback.


Guidence Classes for State Services (MPSC) Exam.-
Inspired by the huge success of Indian Civil Services (IAS / IPS) training Workshop, free of cost guidance classes were arranged for the State Services examination conducted by MPSC for selecting candidates for various posts such as Dy.Collector, Dy.Superintendent of Police etc. The inaugural function was arranged on 8th July 2007 and was presided over by Mr. Ajit Nimbalkar, IAS (Ex-Chief Secretary M.S.). At the inaugural function, Mrs. Supriya Devsthali-Kolte (Dy. Commissioner - Central Excise & Customs) and Mr. Amol Kadu from Chanakya Mandal gave guidance speeches to the candidates. While concluding the inaugural function, Mr. Dattatray Karale (Dy. Commissioner of Police) encouraged the candidates for appearing the exam with optimistic thoughts. 

The regular guidance classes were arranged between July 18th to August 
17th, 2007. It was a golden opportunity for the candidates since experienced lecturers were invited to guide them. Mr. Rajendra Markad, Ms. Jayashree Dhaygude, Ms. Manjiri Jadhav, Mr. Sujit Pawar, Mr.Bharat Mate imparted the training to the students. Mrs. Supriya Devsthali-Kolte (Dy. Commissioner-Central Excise & Customs) willingly came forward to take a special session for the students. Approximately 150 students successfully attended the classes. All the students admired the quality of the classes and urged the Mandal to organize similar classes for future competitive exams. A helping hand was offered by Mr.Avinash Dharmadhikari’s Chanakya Mandal for organizing the classes. The concluding ceremony of the classes was held on August 17th, 2007. A special guidance speech of Mr. Avinash Dharmadhikari (IAS) was arranged for the concluding ceremony.
