“LALBAUGCHA RAJA (The Emperor of Lalbaug)” is name of the popular Ganesh Idol of “LALBAUGCHA RAJA SARVAJANIK GANESHOTSAV MANDAL”. The preparations for Ganeshotsav 2009 were started since June 2009. In order to offer proper DARSHAN of the Lalbaugcha Raja to its devotees, necessary arrangements were made by the Mandal. the Mandal always tries to take necessary precautions so that no inconvenience is caused to the devotees. Approximately 1800 residents had been appointed as “SAHAKARI SABHASAD” (Special Volunteers) to help the Mandal in managing the Ganeshotsav. Along with them, a team of about 5000 other volunteers was also ready to help the devotees. A special 'Disaster Management Training' was imparted to some volunteers to handle any unforeseen calamity.
Arrangements for Ganeshotsav 2009:
The arrangements for the devotees who wish to make or fulfill a vow to the Lalbaugcha Raja, had been slightly modified this year. This queue viz. NAVAS Line had taken the route Dinshaw Petit Lane-Abhudaya Nagar-G.D.Ambekar Marg-Dr.Vijay Walimbe Road,Parel Village-Guru Rani Chowk,Parel.

The arrangements for other devotees who wanted to have MUKH DARSHAN of the Lalbaugcha Raja was similar to the arrangements made for Ganeshotsav 2008. The queue for the MUKH DARSHAN had taken the route Chhatrapati Shivaji Ground (Garam Khada)-Dr.B.A.Road-Dattaram Lad Marg-T.B.Kadam Marg-Add'l C.P. office-Dr.B.A.Road-Byculla Station-Nagpada Junction-S.B.Dhody Marg-Mumbai Sales Tax Office.

Arrangements were made in both the queues so that the devotees are not faced with any inconvenience in the queue.

Lakhs of devotees offered prayer to Lalbaugcha Raja during the Ganeshotsav 2009. This year Mandal also offered LIVE Online Darshan of Lalbaugcha Raja on its website. Many devotees who could not come in person took benefit of this Online Darshan.

VISARJAN:
The VISARJAN procession of the Lalbaugcha Raja started at 10:00 AM on 3rd September 2009 from Lalbaug market. In order to make the arrangements for the VISARJAN procession, both the Navas Line and Mukh Darshan lines were closed well in advance.

The VISARJAN procession took its traditional route i.e. Lalbaug, Bharat Mata theatre, Lalbaug, Sane Guruji Marg, Byculla Rly. station (w), Clare Road, Nagpada, Dunkan Road, Don Taki, Sant Sena Maharaj Marg (Kumbharwada), Suthar Gully, Madhav Baug, C.P. Tank, V.P. Road, Opera House, Girgaon Chowpati.

Thousands of devotees joined the procession and lakhs of devotees were standing en-route to have a glimpse of Lalbaugcha Raja. The procession reached at Girgaon Chowpati at 6:00 AM on next day. Then the Idol of Lalbaugcha Raja was taken for immersion in deep sea with the help of the VISARJAN TARAFA (Raft), which is specially designed and constructed by the Mandal for the VISARJAN.

The immersion took place at 8:30AM on 4th September 2009.
